Productive conflict
Everything stands still. Nothing moves. People are standing opposite one another. Side by side. Together. They try to approach each other, but every step seems virtually impossible. How did we end up here?
Together with four dancers and a percussionist, the Cologne-based Physical Theatre company KimchiBrot Connection explores the different facets of arguing through choreography and text. Drawing on in-depth interviews with people from Gießen and various experts, they investigate how our culture of debate and conflict has been shaped on both a personal and societal level over recent decades. What are the moments of productive conflict, and where is the line beyond which things should not be argued about? While we hear their voices in intimate reflection, talking about when and how they lose their temper, on stage we witness a group attempting to overcome its obvious fractures. With power, tension, and immense sensitivity, they descend into the depths of conflict and the fear of potential absolute irreconcilability.
